Private chat for Skengerz

Join the Matrix home server with Element.

This guide walks you through your invite code, Authentik account sign-in, and Element setup on Windows, Android, iPhone/iPad, or the web.

1

Get your invite code

Your invite code is provided by Sean or the person who invited you. You will need it in the next step when you create or activate your Authentik account.

More info: getting and using an invite code

Invite codes are created for Sean’s private Matrix/Element setup and are used during the Authentik account creation step.

  • If you have not received a code yet, ask the person who invited you before continuing.
  • Keep the code private and copy it exactly as shown when Authentik asks for it.
  • Codes are time-limited, so use the code soon after you receive it.
  • The checker below asks the server whether the code is valid or expired.

Paste your code here to check whether it is valid before opening Authentik.

2

Create or sign into Authentik

Open Sean’s Authentik portal, use your invite code if prompted, then return here when your account is ready.

  • Username: use lowercase letters and numbers only, for example alex123.
  • Security: if Authentik asks to setup an authenticator, choose Passkey / WebAuthn / security key or a TOTP authenticator app.
More info: username and authenticator setup

This account is for Sean’s private Matrix/Element chat setup. Authentik is the account portal you use before signing into Element.

  • Username rules: lowercase letters and numbers only. No capitals, spaces, dots, underscores, hyphens, or symbols.
  • Authenticator app / TOTP: install an app such as 2FAS, Aegis, Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Bitwarden Authenticator, scan the QR code, then type the 6-digit code it shows.
  • Passkey / WebAuthn / security key: use Face ID, fingerprint, your device PIN, a password manager, or a hardware security key to approve sign-in.
  • If you are not sure which option to pick, choose Passkey / WebAuthn / security key.

Important: set up your Element recovery key

After signing in, Element may ask you to set up recovery or secure backup. Do this before you rely on the account for encrypted chats.

  • Your recovery key helps unlock encrypted message history when you sign in on a new phone, computer, or browser.
  • Save it somewhere private and safe, such as your password manager. Do not send it to anyone.
  • If you lose it, you may not be able to recover old encrypted messages after changing devices or resetting your login.

Troubleshooting

If something does not work

I do not see the SSO/Auth button

Double-check the homeserver is exactly chat.wheelermediahub.com. If Element is using matrix.org or another server, change the homeserver and try again.

My invite code does not work

Ask the person who invited you to confirm the code is still active and typed exactly as provided.

Authentik asks for an authenticator, TOTP, passkey, or WebAuthn

This is normal account security. TOTP means a 6-digit code from an authenticator app. WebAuthn/passkey means approving the sign-in with your device, password manager, fingerprint, Face ID, PIN, or a security key. If you are unsure, choose the authenticator app option and follow the QR-code instructions.

My username is rejected

Usernames can only contain lowercase letters and numbers, for example alex2026. Remove capitals, spaces, dots, underscores, hyphens, and other symbols.

Element says the homeserver is unknown

Check for typos and try the web clients: chat.skengerz.com or element.wheelermediahub.com.

I am stuck verifying a session

You can skip verification temporarily to send messages, then verify later from Element settings. Keep recovery keys/passphrases somewhere safe.
